Lacey and Larkin, Frontera Fund is renowned for extending financial help to organizations that champion for refugees’ rights. Lacey and Larkin fight for the rights of refugees by ensuring the organizations that foster human rights do not lack funds for supporting their projects.
They were arrested in 2007 for publishing article that revealed the proceedings of the grand jury. The journalists appeared before the judges and won the case. The accusations filed against them were dropped by the judges.
Consequently, the judges ordered that they are rewarded $3.75 million as compensation. The money is used to represent the refugees to obtain their human rights. The funds are also used in promoting freedom of speech in the USA so that rights of the immigrants can be aired.
Lacey and Larkin were arrested by the sheriffs in their houses despite their attempts to meet the judge.
They were driven to jail in dark SUVs.The public raised their concerns about the arrest of the journalists. The public outcry forced the judges to drop the case after five days. Lacey and Larkin are remembered for continued passion for championing for human rights. They acquired ASU renegade newspaper in 1970 and converted it to top investigative paper in the country.
They printed and distributed the copies of the paper in street racks. Their efforts in advocating for human rights are evident by the improved living standards of refugees.
Angeles de was started by Enrique Morones in 1986 to champion for the rights of refugees. The organization is in the forefront in banning the killing of refugees.The group also offer educational programs to the refugees which are aimed at making them informed about their rights.
The group is recognized for donating food and clothing to refugees in 2014 when there was immigration crisis. The organization has received financial support from Lacey and Larkin to achieve their missions.
Puente is a non-profit organization formed in 2007 to fight for human and civil rights of refugees. The main aim of the organization was to defend the rights of refugees who were being deported illegally from Arizona. Most of the families who had violated immigration laws were being deported to Mexico.
Puente intervened to prevent the immigrants from being deported. The organization defended them in the court of law.The court declared that none of the refugees would be deported since it was found to be unconstitutional.
The group also advocated for the rights of immigrant workers who were being raided in the workplaces for lack of documents. The organization advanced a case in the court that prevented the immigrant workers from being deported.
Puente has initiated educational fairs which are aimed at enlightening the immigrants about their rights.They are also encouraged to raise their voices against their plight and stand for their rights. A Hotline has been developed by the organization which is aimed at educating the immigrants on their rights. Young people are encouraged to use photography and videography to narrate stories to immigrants.
There are some programs which have been started to assist the refugees to obtain identification cards. Phoenix City Council supports the immigrants to obtain identification documents cards.
