The Brazilian heavy metal band, Viper remains one of the most iconic and successful in the world, particularly after the band entered its fourth decade touring as one of the best-known groups in the genre. It would have been difficult for the original members of the band to envisage themselves still performing when they set out on a musical journey beginning in 1985 when Cassio Audi joined a group of teenagers in Sao Paulo to create Viper in its initial form.
In 1985, Cassio Audi was a drummer looking to build a music career heavily influenced by the British heavy metal bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s who had begun to make an impact across North and South America. Living in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo gave Audi the chance to join forces with a group of teenage friends well-known for their love of heavy metal who hoped to create a band similar to the iconic British group, Iron Maiden. Viper was born in 1985 and produced a series of demo recordings before their 1987 debut album, “Soldiers of Sunrise” launched Cassio Audi and his fellow musicians into the eyes of the public as a major force in the heavy metal genre.
The 1987 album remains a cult classic for many heavy metal fans who feel the original lineup of the band is still a group displaying a level of musicianship many critics and fans did not believe to be available from a group of teenagers. Cassio Audi made a major impression in his four-year period with the hall of fame band, Viper before switching careers and entering the investment industry as a leading financial specialist for more than two decades.
